ABout us
We are an amateur community choir for adults based at Storey's Field Centre, Eddington Avenue, Eddington, CB3 1AA
We meet on Mondays in school term time, currently from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.
Our Musical Director Bridget Hardy is an experienced, professional mezzo-soprano and choir leader who teaches from both sheet music and by ear. In the final hour of the session experienced musician Colin Hazel accompanies us on the piano.
We have a wide-ranging repertoire, including classical, baroque, folk, musical theatre and pop. We sing in a mixture of male and female voices, predominantly in two-, three- and sometimes four-part harmony. There are no auditions to join the choir.
A Free Taster Session is available for newcomers at the beginning of each term, subject to availability. These need to be booked in advance via the the Membership Secretary. No audition is necessary.
The ability to read music is not essential, but members are provided with their own set of printed music in order to read the lyrics and to follow the structure of each of the parts. Bridget teaches us technique and under her expert guidance and light touch we aim to improve our musicality.
We wish to maintain our very varied repertoire with different styles of singing. We are encouraged and helped to read music, occasionally pieces are provided as word sheets while we learn the music by ear.
We put on a free concert every two terms to share the pieces we have worked on with an audience of family and friends from the local community. At the end of each concert a retiring collection is held in aid of a local charity. We also have a Social gathering at the end of each term or following a concert, where everyone brings food and soft drinks to share.
