Welcome to "Singing Allowed!" at The Cambridge Singing Club
We are a community choir for men and women (over 18years old). We enjoy singing a unique repertoire, ranging from pop to classical, in unison, 2 and 3 part harmony (see the Choir Details page for repertoire.)
There are no auditions to join us. (Our Musical Director will only audition a member for a solo part.) Following our Free Taster Session in September 2013 our membership rose to 41 singers. It is now 56 and we have had to start a waiting list for the January 2015 term.
We meet at Castle Street Methodist Church Hall on Mondays from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
We are taught by an experienced professional mezzo-soprano, Bridget Hardy, who teaches from sheet music and by ear. The ability to read music is not essential, but it will become necessary to be able to find one's way around a sheet of music, if only for the text and the general shape. Bridget teaches us technique and under her expert guidance and with her lovely light touch we aim to improve our musicality. For the final hour of the session experienced musician Colin Hazel accompanies us on the piano. . We put on two concerts per year, each after two terms of rehearsing.
Fees vary slightly depending on the length of the term and are payable at the start of each term. Members’ fees cover the hire of premises, the purchasing of sheet music, insurance and the cost of our professional Musical Director and a professional accompanist.
