The group formed in April 2012 with about 24 members. The membership currently varies between 50 and 60 due to the transient population of Cambridge. Therefore it is always worth enquiring about vacancies on the CONTACT US page.
A Free TASTER SESSION is offered at the beginning of each term. These need to be booked via the Secretary.
The next one available will be the 29th April 2019.
No audition is required to join the choir. Our Musical Director will only audition a member for a solo part.
The ability to read music is not essential, but it will become necessary to be able to find one's way around a sheet of music, if only for the text and the general shape. Bridget teaches us technique and under her expert guidance and with her lovely light touch we aim to improve our musicality.
We wish to maintain our very varied repertoire with different styles of singing. We are encouraged and helped to read music, most of which is bought. Some pieces are obtained from free internet download sites while others are arranged by our Musical Director, Bridget. Occasionally pieces are provided as word sheets while we learn the music by ear. We have a 'buddy system' to help people without printers.
The choir is run on a not-for-profit basis by our committee, which is elected by us at our A.G.M.
Data Protection Policy
The information given on the registration form is kept securely by the Secretary of Singing Allowed for as long as a membership is active. It will only be shared amongst the Committee of Singing Allowed to enable choir notices to be sent to members, payments to be received as well as contacting next of kin in the event of an emergency.
It is safely destroyed once a membership ceases.
We rehearse in the Storey's Field Community Centre, CB3 1AA, on Monday during term time from 19:00 to 21:00.
For a free Taster Session please contact the secretary via CONTACT US.
We usually have a short Social for the final half hour of each term. Choir members bring soft drinks and nibbles to share. If there has been a concert the audience may join us for this too.
We are accompanied by pianist, Colin Hazel, during the second hour of the session.
No singing experience necessary.
